Windpomp MTB
Great vibes and fast racing
The 31st of December was the grand finale of the famous Stilbaai holiday season…the date and the WINDPOMP MTB event both offer challenges for seasoned winner CP van Wyk (2.11.41) and young guns like Ignatius du Preez (2.18.40) second and Lood Goosen (2.19.49) third (still a junior!). André Joubert did excellant as a sub vet in 2.22.48. The tide has turned for the Windpomp Event as young riders tried and tested the 60km XCM style experience. Names like Samuel Cleary and Van Zyl Steyn were noticed. They are still juniors with great futures ahead of them. With more than 1000m’s of accumulative climbing over the full distance, cyclists had to face limestone and sandstone uphills, a river crossing of note and rolling hills on their homebound journey towards the finish line.
In the female category no one else than Kate Slegrova took line honors in a time of 2.53.16. with Minette du Preez second and Lydia Calitz third. With the Olympic games in 18 months time cyclists can look towards this event to scale themselves against the background of endurance racing to qualify for International Racing. The full experience open up opportunities for all age groups to lift their skill level as this is not just another
dopamine ride…
The 2023 date is booked for the 23rd of December. A king of the mountains trophy and great prize money is up for grabs.
