Each term starts and ends in Stellenbsoch. From Stellenbosch we move to the different venues as indicated on the program.
A private vehicle is not needed. All the transportation needs are covered
within the ambit of the course.
During the first and second terms: Private vehicles are not permitted during
the first two weeks. The is limited parking space which can be used totally
at own risk. Having your own transport during will be of value during the
second term.
Third and fourth terms: Due to the nature of the program, the use of private
vehicles are unpractical and are not recommended.
Free time
The normal iALA programme is from 06:00 till 17:00. There are
exceptions during certain modules. Dinner follows after 17:00 after which
students are off to do their own thing.
During the first two weeks, students may not go out at night.
After the first two weeks, students may go out at their own risk,
but only with the permission of the staff on duty.
Weekends:
Most weekends are free. At Hermanus, a lot of time is spent at sea
to make up time for the skippers qualification.
Between terms:
There are holiday breaks between terms during which students can
return home as is indicated on the calendar.
Exceptions:
With prior notice, time-off can be arranged for private
appointments, family and other gatherings, etc.
With prior notice, parents and friends are welcome to visit.
There are special events during the course of the year to which parents
and friends are invited.
Even though all effort is to present the programme as indicated, iALA reserves the right to make changes when and if needed.
All staff are geared to apply emergency first aid. At each venue,
arrangements are made with local medical practitioners to be available on
short notice for iALA needs.
Where applicable, students must make their own arrangements for
prescribed medicines.
Students are responsible for all their personal medical, dental and
other related expenses.
All reasonable precaution is taken for the safety of students.
Cellphones are allowed, but may not be used while during programme hours. iPods, lap tops and other electronic items are allowed for use during free time.
Every situation is evaluated on its own merrit, before there is any decision is taken. All decisions are taken with the best interest of the party involed, but with consideration for the rights and interest of the other students.
The use of any alcohol is out of bounds during the course of the program, except with the explicit permission and in the presence of personnell. Students may not keep their own stock of any alcoholic products. The use of drugs is unacceptable at all times. The participation of students not adhering to this rule, will be terminated. Smoking is strongly discouraged and will only be allowed after hours, out of doors and away from all non-smoking students.
Own musical intruments are highly desireable. There will be many occasions where music will be on the menu.
